Matthew Antonelli is one of the three founding partners of Antonelli, Harrington & Thompson. Before founding Antonelli, Harrington & Thompson, Mr. Antonelli was counsel to the law firm Weil, Gotshal & Manges.

Mr. Antonelli has extensive experience litigating patent cases throughout the country, and specifically in the Eastern District of Texas.  Mr. Antonelli is an experienced trial attorney: he has examined witnesses at trial, argued numerous substantive motions and Markman hearings, and has conducted multiple jury studies. Mr. Antonelli has deep experience in all phases of litigation, from developing initial case theories and conducting discovery, to drafting dispositive motions and preparing for trial. Mr. Antonelli has worked closely with numerous experts to prepare their reports, and has taken and defended scores of depositions, including the depositions of experts, inventors, key executives, prosecuting attorneys, and 30(b)(6) witnesses.

Mr. Antonelli is a registered patent attorney. He has extensive experience working on reexaminations of patents before the Patent Office, having developed reexamination strategies in connection with many of his cases.

Mr. Antonelli is a frequent writer on issues of patent law. He served as the Recent Developments Editor of the Intellectual Property & Technology Law Journal and was a co-author of Pretrial Motion Practice in Patent Litigation Strategies Handbook (Grossman & Hoffman eds., 2000). He also has an active pro bono practice. For example, he recently represented the Innocence Project, helping to secure a new trial for a man convicted of a crime on the basis of a single, unreliable eyewitness identification. In 2006, he received the Legal Aid Society’s award for outstanding pro bono service for his successful representation of a prisoner being denied basic medical care.

Mr. Antonelli earned an SB degree in Physics from MIT in 1995. He attended Boalt Hall (University of California at Berkeley, School of Law), and completed his third year of law school at Harvard. While at Boalt Hall, Mr. Antonelli was a member and articles editor of the Berkeley Technology Law Journal. He also worked for the Technology Transfer and Intellectual Property Management Office of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
